Terms of Service
Draft — pre-launchThese terms govern your use of NewSanity’s website and mobile apps (the “Service”), operated by Jesse Stafford (“NewSanity,” “we,” “us”). By using the Service, you agree to them.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use NewSanity. The Service is not directed to children under 13.
What NewSanity is
NewSanity aggregates news headlines and framing from across the political spectrum and presents them side by side, along with algorithmically generated scores and labels — like the Rift Score and left/right side indicators — that characterize how a story is being covered by different outlets.
These characterizations are our editorial and algorithmic opinion, not statements of fact. Labeling an outlet, headline, or public figure as leaning a particular direction reflects our methodology for comparing coverage, not a factual claim about that outlet’s or person’s motives, honesty, or conduct. We are not affiliated with, and do not endorse, any outlet, candidate, party, or campaign referenced or linked in the Service.
Election and ballot information
Where NewSanity shows you election or ballot information (candidates, races, districts), that information is aggregated from third-party sources and provided for informational purposes only. Always confirm your registration status, polling location, and ballot with your local election authority before voting.
Third-party content
Headlines, article excerpts, and comments shown in NewSanity originate from the outlets and platforms we cite, and remain their owners’ property. We link back to original sources rather than reproducing full articles. We aren’t responsible for the accuracy of third-party content, and linking to it isn’t an endorsement.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
- Attempt to access another user’s device data or bypass the Service’s security or rate limits;
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or resell the Service or its data at scale without our written permission;
- Use automated means to interact with the Service (bots, scripted voting) in a way that distorts the aggregate scores or stats shown to others.
Intellectual property
NewSanity’s own content — including the app’s design, code, scoring methodology, and original text — is owned by us or our licensors. Aggregated third-party content remains the property of its original publishers, as described above.
No warranty
The Service is provided “as is.” We don’t warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any score, label, or piece of aggregated content is accurate or complete. You use the Service, and any decisions you make based on it, at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, NewSanity and its operator won’t be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service won’t exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, if any.
Changes to the Service or these terms
We may modify or discontinue features of the Service, and may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, post a notice in the app.
Governing law
These terms, and any dispute arising from them or the Service, are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. You agree that any such dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
